About us
In March 2009, the Nassau County Bar Association,(NCBA) launched it's first free Mortgage Foreclosure Legal Consultation Clinic held at NCBA’s headquarters. In January 2010, Nassau courts instituted daily court-mandated settlement conferences, with volunteer attorneys representing pro se litigants.
Today, the NCBA Mortgage Foreclosure Pro Bono Project, as this effort became known, includes free mortgage foreclosure legal consultation clinics, where attorneys meet one-on-one with the homeowners to perform a legal “triage”, assessing the financial situation and current stage of the foreclosure process. They help the homeowners sort things out, give advice, explain the process and provide options. Clinics are scheduled twice a month on Mondays from 3:00-6:00 pm. In addition, Pro Bono representation of homeowners at court-mandated settlement conferences, are provided at each and every conference in Supreme Court, Nassau County, Monday through Wednesday. All activities are promoted in foreign languages and include attorneys fluent in foreign languages to assist homeowners for whom English is not their primary language when requested. To date the project has assisted more than 10,000 residents.
