What is Lawyer Referral?

The Lawyer Referral Information Service (LRIS) is a public service sponsored by the Bar Association of Nassau County, NY, Inc. LRIS is an effective means of introducing people with legal problems to attorneys experienced in the area of law in which they need assistance. Membership on the LRIS panel is open to all members of the Bar Association.

How do you join the LRIS panel?

Membership on LRIS is open to all members of the NCBA. The annual fee for LRIS panel is $250, with an opportunity to join seven special areas of law for an additional nominal fee. Attorneys admitted to the bar for five years or less receive 1/3 off.

"Of Counsel" Mentor Program - how can this help me?
This service is only available for NCBA Members

Have a problem case or a question? Information and informal advice are provided by volunteer "mentors" with expertise in specific area of law. NCBA members with at least five years of experience in designated areas of legal practice volunteer as mentors, self certifying that at least 1/3 of their practice involves matters within that particular legal arena. Lawyer to lawyer referral contacts are made with the understanding that assistance will be provided in a brief telephone conversation and that the mentor will furnish information, guidance, or direction to the caller.

Some questions require only a brief point of information, others result in referral of an aspect of a case, or even the entire case to the Mentor attorney. This program has at times resulted in new friendships and in the strengthening of legal professional bonds. It works for everyone and is a member benefit that is free with payoffs for everyone, mentor and mentee alike. If you are ever unsure of a point of law or procedure, please take advantage of the "Of Counsel" Mentor Program.

Call 516-747-4070 ext. 219 or 220 to obtain a mentor. This service is only available for NCBA Members
